Emotionally Healthy Kids

There are three essential strategies for raising emotionally healthy kids. These work for parents, teachers, therapists, and all other kinds of caretakers.

  1. Break the reaction cycle. Instead of reacting right away, we want to create a response cycle.

  2. Interrupt circular conversations. If we are having the same fight all the time, we aren't actually communicating. We need to look at both the foundational argument and the emotional needs being communicated.

  3. Consider being a future forward parent. Think about what kind of grandchildren you want to have. The things you model and create today will be the foundations for the relationships that you have with your family in the future.

Let's keep these in mind when we are communicating with our families, and see if we can all be a little bit more emotionally healthy!
