Jennifer Daily, LICSW Updates

We are working on getting all the content from the old site's blog into the new site's blog. Thank you for your patience while we work on that! In the meantime, you may want to check out Jen's Facebook page for her posts and recent videos, and enjoy this photo of Ruthie!

Have you seen the movie Inside Out? It's a really cool movie! They used brain scientists to help make that movie- all the feelings, and the way they work, and how they change over time- that's how it really works! We also have 5 basic emotions! Joy, Anger, Fear, Sadness, and Disgust. Every other emotion we have are just a combination of these. If we know this information, and we can name these emotions, we can then better know what's happening, and then we can better control and guide our feelings.

Today we talk about the differences between Anxiety, Stress, and Worry.

Anxiety - Happens in your mind and your body, but is a false alarm.

For example, when you get all nervous and sweaty before you have to talk in front of the class, or sing at your yearly concert.

Worry - Thought based (happens in your mind), obsessive, negative, and repetitive.

Like, if you have trouble sleeping because of thinking over and over again about something bad that might happen.

Stress - Body based, event based (a situation caused it to happen), exceeds our resources (meaning we just don't know how to deal with it)

I don't know about you, but the whole world taking a massive sick day because of a big virus that could make everyone very sick is something I don't really know how to deal with.

Right now there is a lot of stress happening. There's a lot going on that needs to be dealt with, and it's very hard. In this video below, we talk about ways to deal with this stress by stopping, getting clear about what we have control over, and thinking about what we can do right now that will help with our stress.
